Posted by: Ambrose Chapel at October 20, 2004 07:26 PMNormally a seven run lead IS breaking it open but I know what you mean.

Posted by: John Moltz at October 20, 2004 08:48 PMI can't breathe easy until this thing is in the books. That's what 34 years of rooting for the Sox will do to you.
Posted by: Chris at October 20, 2004 08:48 PMFuck. I'll trade runs for outs, but getting an out first would be nice.

Maybe I'll go outside and throw a trash can through a car window.
What is the deal with Marv Albert's brother? Is he not the stiffest interviewer you've ever seen?
Posted by: John Moltz at October 20, 2004 09:12 PMOK. Now you can take your cloths off. (I don't have cable.. so I'm getting the news online)
Posted by: James in Boulder at October 20, 2004 09:13 PMRevenge is a dish best served cold.
Not sure what it means, but I like the way it sounds.
Posted by: Chris at October 20, 2004 09:19 PMCan I take my clothes off now?
Posted by: Chris at October 20, 2004 09:21 PMYou know who I pity the most? The poor Boston fans who went to the 19 to 8 drubbing on Saturday.
Posted by: John Moltz at October 20, 2004 09:26 PMI'm thinking of naming my first child Damon Ortiz.
Posted by: Chris at October 20, 2004 09:32 PMWow. Just wow.
First, I am *not* a sports fan. I grew up without sports for the majority of my life. Therefore, I have no allegiance to any team.
Despite living in NYC for five years, I am not a Yankees fan. Nor am I a Red Sox fan.
With that said, let me say this to all those Yankees fans with which I must co-exist tomorrow: Boo-yah! You're all so used to winning, you've forgotten what it's like to lose! I'm *glad* to see the Yankees (and their insufferable fans) get spanked. And by their arch-rival in Yankee Stadium to boot. Ha ha ha ha ha!
Why do I dislike Yankees fans? I think it's summed up in two incidents, each from the last several games: when A-Rod swapped the ball running to first and then the refs made the absolutely right call and reversed the run, etc. you threw shit on the field. And tonight, some fuckwit threw Damon's foul ball back onto the field almost hitting him? You've just reinforced everything I hate about Yankees fans. You deserve to lose. Insert raspberry.
Of course I know that the vast majority of Yankees fans aren't like this, but it's really hard to see that when surrounded by ya'll every day for the last 5 years. Eat your humble pie and get off your high horse. Your beloved overpaid ultrawealthy team lost. In my best Nelson laugh: ha ha!
Posted by: Damien at October 20, 2004 10:24 PMWell said, Damien.
Posted by: Chris at October 21, 2004 05:06 AMYes, they were beaten by Boston's overpaid ultrawealthy team.
Boston vs Houston? I hope not. I don't want the World Series to be a set up for the election. But you know editorial writers and reporters everywhere are working on their stories about this. My head hurts already.
Posted by: lane at October 21, 2004 05:11 AMlane, overpaid and ultrawealthy compared to most of us, yes. But less overpaid and ultrawealthy than the Yankees, and a lot less smug. The supposedly mighty fell last night. For Red Sox Nation, last night was an amazing night. It can't be diminished. The little kid in me, which I hope I never lose (and at this rate, I won't), is overjoyed.
Posted by: Chris at October 21, 2004 08:16 AMYes - most of them are overpaid, and I sometimes wonder why I continue to watch this monopolistic game, but it's a series like this that makes it so amazing. After seeing the Mariners go down to the Yankers in too many post seasons and dealing with their obnoxious fans who come to Safeco, it's sweet to see them lose in any way, but to blow a 3 game lead? Priceless.
And then, of course, there's A-Rod. I used to be one of the people who cheered him even after he became a Ranger. But I don't cheer any Yankee. I do enjoy seeing a spoiled prima donna - perhaps THE spoiled prima donna - denied a World Series ring to go along with his bazillion dollar contract.
Posted by: John Moltz at October 21, 2004 08:45 AMMaybe we've seen the beginning of "The Curse of A-Rod." One can only hope.
Posted by: Chris at October 21, 2004 08:52 AMThe definitely has bad karma.
Plus he's a cheater. Fortunately the umpires didn't let him get away with it.
When they were showing him standing at the dugout railing with Jeter, Karen and I were saying "Jeter... and cheater! Jeter... and cheater!"
